mini horse grazing muzzles!

Question
Hey!!
I am thinking about getting my mini mare a grazing muzzle, I plan on letting her out during the day into the pasture with the muzzle on, then bringing her in to her stall at night (without the muzzle on) with some hay. The muzzle just limits grass in take, so do you think it would be okay to leave it on all day? Of course I would introduce her "diet" gradually, I'm just worried That she might founder in the spring or summer if she is allowed unlimited grazing, and I am also thinking about taking her in a few open shows during the summer, and I would think it would be best for her not to have a huge grass belly! :)
Anyway, if you have any tips for me about using a grazing muzzle please share!! Thanks so much for your time!

Answer
I thought I had answered this one but it is still in my pending so sorry you didn't get my original answer.I definately agree with the grazing muzzle. Just make sure it has a breakaway strap on it in case your kid gets caught on something. I have no grass to speak of so haven't had that issue but I specifically killed off my grass and let them overgraze it now to keep it down to nibbles. I would rather feed them the amount and quality of food I want them to have so they don't get the bellys and are fit for show. I Have never used a grazing muzzle but do know some friends who do. As I said I think you would be fine leaving it on during the day as long as it is one that will release if the mini gets into trouble. They make them with big enough holes so they can drink as well. Good luck sometimes keeping these guys weight where it should be is a challenge. Melissa
