QuestionI just bought a minacture stud colt. I was wanting to breed him to a couple of my homazagous standard mares to get some ponies for my grandchildren. What is the best way to breed them with standard horses?

Thanks for your question. I have never heard of anyone breeding a mini to a large horse. I have seen mini-pony mixes and of course pony-horse mixes but the "logistics" of live cover just don't seem possible to me, nor am I a sure the foal, if it could happen, would be physically healthy. I would check with a vet or a vet college (such as Colo. State Univ. or Virginia Tech to name a couple) to see if it would work and if so, the only option I see is artificial insemination. I would be interested to hear their answer. You may want to consider trading your mini for a pony. Best, Toni
