Question
Hi, we've recently begun to wonder seriously about our little 4 yr. old horse's breed. We don't know if she is a pony or miniature horse. We always just thought of her as a small pony, however, her height is only about 34" at the base of her mane. Her mane, being the main issue of trying to find out what breed pony she might be. I have looked at as many as I can find on the internet, and can find none with a mane like hers... it's short, sharp, mohawk-like, pointing straight up and forward, towards her head, which gives her the only part of it that lays down, on her forehead. She is chestnut/bay in color, mane/tail (which almost touches the ground) included, and has no markings on her at all, except for a "hurricane" shaped white spot on her forehead. Any information you can give us would be greatly appreciated, and please let me know if you would like to see a picture or need any further info.
Thank you, in advance, for your time.

Answer
Hi Pam-
Thanks for the fun question! There are tons of breeds of ponies, many who can have "mohawk-style" manes including some Icelandic and Fjord ponies to name a couple. Based on her size I would guess you have a "hybrid" meaning a miniature/pony cross or she could just be a "B" mini. Our minis have varied manes, some lay down and some we call "fros." The really long tail is "typical mini." Where did you get her and can they shed any light on her background? If she is 34" or under she does qualify as a miniature with the AMHA. I would love to see a picture. Hope this helps, Toni
