Question
hi - just moved to a new barn, our mini is now in a large pasture .... lots of rich grass, etc.  i'm worried about him foundering.... will he gradually get accustomed to this new diet if we introduce him slowly or do i need to make a smaller pasture for him... i don't want him to be alone!!!! help!!

Answer
Hi Jean-
Great question! The grass issue is not as much of a problem now as it is in the Spring. You are right to worry, though. Minis are like ponies in that they are very prone to founder as well as obesity which is bad for them and hard to cure. I would definitely limit his intake- start with an hour or two and increase it slowly. He really won't need as much feed, maybe none. Keep an eye on his weight and check for heat in his feet. If you keep an eye on him, he should be fine. Hope this helps. Best, Toni
