"Last year April my parents bought a farm, with the farm came 5 horses, they were not very familier with humans but in time we have been able to ride them. In August we galded the 3year old stalion (Butch), which was ridden 3times but threw all 3people off. Since then me and him have really bonded, he comes when ever i call him and he is lovely to ride. In October my father bought a horse for himself, also a galding, 6years of age(Plum). But my Butch keeps on attacking Plum! He gallops off and runs after Plum, untill we can get one of them in a camp and the other out. They run through fenses and all they are doing is hurting themselves. But i dont know how to make them like each other, Plum does nothing to Butch, but Butch has to go and attack Plum!? Why? Do you know of any way that i can get Butch to stop fighting? Or do we have to seperate them all the time?
PLEASE if you have any info at all be it big or small, please help me!
Thanks a ton

Hi,
In this case if Butch is hurting Plum then I would keep them separate. Also does Butch bite Plum or just run him off? If he is just running him off and you can get another horse that will keep him company then you can keep them all in the same pasture but if the pasture is small and Butch is hurting him then I would seperate them. Horses tend to live in a hierarchy system and there is a pecking order that they set up and it sounds like Butch has put Plum on the bottom of that order. Are there any other horses that you can put in with Butch?

Yes Butch is biting Plum as he runs after him. When we got the farm there were 5 horses, and butch was the stallion of the herd. So i can keep butch with his herd to walk free, but its unfair to plum keeping him locked up when he is doing nothing rong. so im really confussed as what to do.

How big is your pasture? Can you divide it off so that Butch is seperated from Plum? If you can get some T Posts and hot wire you can make a pasture for just Butch and one another horse. I would not take Plum out of the herd. After Plum has been with the herd for a couple of months without Butch then I would allow Butch to join them to see how he behaves. If he continues to attack Plum then remove him. Does he try to bite people at all?

No, he doesnt bite people, he has once, but he got a huge smack, so now he doesnt even try any more. The only thing with our pasture, is that there is no more grass left because of the horses eating it all the time, we do normally feed them lusern and molasis but we ran out of the lusern very fast last year and now we have to wait for more to come in stock. Do you maybe know of any food that will give them the same amount of nutrition as the lusern?

Answer
The best thing to feed your horses is a grain called Complete Feed. It has no mollasses in it. You should also give them Beet Pulp. You soak the Beet Pulp in water for several hours and can feed them up to a 5 gallon bucket a day. Beet pulp is very good for keeping weight on a horse. The reason you do not want to feed molasses is that it can make a horse hyper.
