hello, why few riders are taught riding on the lunge? is it beneficial to the horse or the rider? please tell me this in detail!!

Answer
Very often serious riding schools, especially in Europe, will put a new student on the longe line for up to six months, riding without stirrups or reins, until they have developed an independent seat.

I will lunge my students at least 15-20 per cent of the time. I myself will get a lunge lesson to reinforce my balance whenever I can.

It is really the only really correct way to learn to have an independent seat for a SERIOUS rider.

Many people do not have the patience...they just want to ride and not worry about whether or not they are correct.

I start all my young horses out by lungeing them.

Famous schools such as the Spanish Riding School lunge their riders.

I am not being critical, just helping to educate, but the picture you included has many faults. It looks as if the rider is riding in sneakers. His chin strap looks as if it not fastened.

I always lunge from the halter.....this horse is very narrow and is being pulled a bit off balance by the person lungeing him. The rider looks as if he is too far forward with his legs too far forward also.

Note...(it took me MANY< MANY years working on my riding to have a decent seat. I hope this helps. )
