Leading a yearling

Question
I have a shire x connemara yearling she is exceptionally well behaved apart from she is difficult to lead. She wasnt led when she was with her mum so has only been led for 6months. She will walk for a couple of strides then stop, and refuse to move without someone urging her from her bum and head. This means i have to have someone with me whilst getting her in from the field and taking her out. Please help. Many thanks

Answer
Hi Chloe,

First I have a question for you... is your filly trained to tie? If not, that would be my first step. Once she's learned how to stand tied, and give in to pressure, leading will be easier.

If she already ties, however, my suggestion would be to keep her in a pen where she can wear a halter and lead rope permanently... she'll stumble around and trip over the lead rope, but she'll learn how to give into pressure while moving, as well.

Those are my top suggestions. I hope they help!
