holding the bit tightly

Question
hello sir, why few horses hold the bit tightly in their mouth?? how can i sense that my mount is holding the bit tightly

Answer
Horses don't really "hold the bit tightly" in their mouth. There is a space between the front teeth and the molars where the bit sits. It is impossible for them to "hold" it tightly. They can however, pull against the bit making it feel like they are holding it. This is something you have to feel with the reins. You will feel the horse pulling on the reins and they will be tight in your hands.
