Question
Hi Rick,
My daughter has been riding for approx 6 years (mostly trail horses in riding camps). Once she reached her "peak" at the horse camps we decided to purchase her a horse of her own. After much searching we found a 13 year old gelding (Quarter horse 16.1 hh). He as used in a feedlot then was purchased as a penning horse. Upon seeing him and taking him for a ride we decided to purchase him. He is a gentle giant, he rides like a caddy. The only problem we have with him is that he spooks at the most odd things. Dogs and cats can walk, bark, and play around him and he doesn't move an inch, but a twig breaks in the trees he's spooked .. he doesn't bolt though. We also can tie hi to a post he's broke countless halters. With this said my daughter has become nervous of him ... we've send him and her to a trainer for 30 days and everything seem to be great but then we get him back home and we continue with what the trainer has suggested and he still had that "spook". I've talk to several trainers and a couple of them say he can't be "fixed", is this true, can a 13/14 year old horse learn new tricks? My daughter is so attached to him she would be so hurt if we decided to sell him. Any suggestions?
Thankyou.

Answer
NO it is not true, all horses spook, all are spooky it is called survival and flight instincts and all horses have until they are taught not to.  Any so called trainer that tells you that is really saying, I don't have time or I don't know how to fix it, or your daughter is causing it but I don't want to tell you that since you are paying me.

Read my website and watch my videos, you cannot fix this since you are not riding and handling the horse, your daughter needs to read and learn about horses so she understands what is going on and why horses do what they do. Obviously the trainer is the typical horse world full of bs and just wants to get paid for passing on ignorance.

You have not seen my videos on what I think of so called trainers or you would not be asking this.  You and your daughter need to read my site, watch my videos and you won't need me or that trainer.

This is NOT a horse issue, it is a people issue.
