Question
hi im having trouble with one of my mares who doesnt like to be tied she has broke two halters and a bungee tie stap by pulling back when tied ive heard of tying a rope arounnd here belly than trough her front legs then tie the rope off so when she pulls it tightens around her therefor will stop pulling back i havent tried this i was wondering what you thoght?

Answer
Hello,
Please do not tie your horse up. She is pulling back because it is what she is made to do. Horses feel pressure and push into it or pull away from it. I would ask you to attack this problem from another angle. How well does she move off pressure on the halter? Can you take off at a run and shell follow you to give to the pressure of the halter? Can you point the lead one direction and have her move as lightly as someone you were dancing with? If your answer to either of these questions is no, great! You have some fun work to do! Once you teach your mare to give to pressure, any kind of pressure, she will be better prepared to give to her own pressure when she is tied. Then when you do try tying her again, there are tying devices you can install that give to a horse when they pull, this can help them not to panic.
Good Luck, and please enjoy TEACHING your horse to understand how to give to pressure instead of FORCING her to.
Best Wishes
