Question
Hi i have taken on a new forest pony , he has soft tissue navicular and was going to be shot but hes only just 5 , i have been away from horses for 30 years and at first he terrified me but in the last month or so we have begun to bond , i dont ride him but i am having help with him in natural horsemanship and its helping alot , just one problem is that when we take him to feed him we have to tie him on grass and once i untie him he just goes for the grass, i have been shown how to make him walk over it but with me he just tries with his head down to bulldoze me out of the way and this freaks me and him too , i can take him for a long walk , he comes to me in the field and i have no trouble with any of that, today i tried to make him move back and he made a lunge at me but i dont want to scare him into behaving and i cant give up on him as he is a sweet pony, i have just turned him out into a large field with more grass so i am hoping this will help , he is just a very bossy pony and i need to show hiom im the boss, can you give me any advice please

Answer
Read my web site on the horsemanship page about herd behavior.  You have to move his feet so he will see you as a higher horse.  If you let him drag you, then you tell him he is higher and that is why he does not listen to you.

When he pulls by you, let out some rope and pull his head to his butt, make him move his butt away from you and the will bring his head to you.  Once you stop him from running off he will stop running off.  Once you show him you know how to stop him, he will see you as more a leader and will not test you.

You need to understand how a horse thinks so you know why they do what they do and so you know how to get them to do what you want.

Read my site and write back if you are still have questions.
