Question
my side-neck turtle jakkie has become a bit over weight. she seems to be becoming lazy as well. she doesnt move as much as she used to. im feeding her once a day. is this too much? she's otherwise healthy but not as active as she was a year ago and she's just getting fat. the only things i can think of that may be causing this is over feeding and her tank is about 10 gallons to small(shes 5 and a half inches and the tank is 40 gallons)
P.S. thanks so much for helping me with my russian tortoises.

Answer
As a rule of thumb, we feed turtles an amount roughly equal to the size of their head, or a little bigger.

We feed babies daily, young turtles about every other day, and older, slower turtles about every three days both to help reflect the decreased hunting success in the wild and the slower metabolism.

The tank is smallish, but not terribly so.

I'd just cut back on the food over a couple weeks and see how it goes fo her.

Good luck!
