dying turtles

Question
my best friend had some box turtles she put out in a kiddie pool and they all went belly up like the next day. When she went to check on them their bodies looked like they were ready to pop. She has had animal problems with neighbors before, hurting her animal was this some thing vindictive or a mistake on her part.

I have no idea.  Were the turtles able to rest, because box turtles aren't water turtles so if they were swimming and swimming they'd probably drown.

Your friend shouldn't leave animals in the yard unsupervised, period.  If she is even wondering whether or not it could have been a mistake on her part she needs to NOT get animals... I have a hunch it wasn't the neighbors.

If I had weird neighbors there is no way I'd leave my turtles out there even for a minute unsupervised.
