escaped slider turtle

Question
Our slider turtle escaped from out pond and we were wondering if there is no other water around our neighborhood will he probably end up back near the pond.  Do turtles have homing instincts?

Answer
Turtles can travel for miles looking for new habitat... or they can hang close. There is no way to guess. Check out hiding places close by- thick brush, pile of leaves or debris, etc.

They have a strong instinct for territory, but we cannot usually tell what they consider 'home'.
