Question
QUESTION: hi,
i got two star tortoises a month ago and they got addicted to eat just coriander . now how can i make them eat weeds and other stuffs ?

ANSWER: Hi Ashish,

It's important to get them on a varied diet, so stop feeding coriander all together for now.  Star tortoises should be eating a diet of grasses/hay, weeds, some leafy greens (mustard, turnip, collards, dandelion, etc.), and cactus.  If you chop everything up and mix it together, they won't be able to pick anything out.  Later on, you can add a bit of coriander back in, but don't give them too much as it's not the most nutritious food for them.

tried mixing things up but no use , so please help

Answer
That's fine.  Tortoises don't have to eat a lot, and a healthy tortoise won't starve.  Give it a couple of weeks and you should start to see them eating more.

If you're keeping your tortoises inside all the time, you need to provide a source of basking heat (heat lamp) and also a source of UVB (special reptile bulb).  This is very important, along with proper diet.  If you have a house with a garden, you should build a pen outdoors for your tortoises so they can get natural sunlight.  If the pen is planted with grass and weeds, they will be able to do some grazing on their own as well.

If their appetites haven't improved in two weeks or so, post back and I'll do what I can to help.
