Question
I understand that you have limited knowledge of aquatic turtles. I'm trying to find info about the behavior of my slider turtles and why the male keeps biting the female. If you could direct me to some resources that could help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time, Sarah.

Answer
Hi Sarah,

Is your male mature?  Are you seeing any other behavior along with the biting--specifically, is he fluttering his front legs at her?  Or is he chasing and biting her?  The biting may be related to mating behavior if it's done in conjunction with the fluttering, but it's also likely that it's due to territoriality, especially if their tank is not very large.  A pair of sliders should be housed in a (minimum) 100 gallon tank or, ideally, in an outdoor pond.  Alternatively, you can set them up in separate tanks.  Hope this helped--if you can post back with more information about your setup, I may be able to help more.
