big lump on turtles neck

i recently noticed a fairly large bump on my red eared sliders neck. it's off to the side of the head a little behind the mouth. it's actually realy big and very noticable and i'm very concerned. i've never seen anything like this nor have i heard of such an instance. what could it be?

It is usually called an ear abscess, and is fairly common. It represents a pocket of infection and really needs to be seen by a vet. They need to open it up, remove or drain the material, then provide proper antibiotics and supportive care.
