Question
QUESTION: I have just acquired my first snake, I purchased my black and white Cal King just about 4 days ago, when he came home he ate the day after and is begining to shed. I think he is ok with the enclosure, I haven't tried to handle yet. The question that I actually want to know is, How can I tell how old he is? and also I can't seem to find anything on the internet that lets me know how big he will get when fully matured?

ANSWER: Hi Chris....Measure your king and let me know how long he is.  That will give me a good idea on his age.
Also, Kingsnakes in captivity can grow anywhere between 4-5 feet long.  6 feet is the maximum length in the wild.  My female king who is almost 8 years old is a bit over 4 feet long.  Let me know the measurement :-)

QUESTION: he is very close to 17 inches. sorry i meant to include that in the original question. Also in addition i have an under tank heating pad on one side and nothing on other side with a snake cave on the cool side and a less covered hide on the warm side with a grapevine across the entire enclosure and water bowl on the cool side, i use reptibark as a tank liner, is this a good set up for my king snake?

Answer
Your king is most likely a "yearling"...aka: a year old.  Your set-up in your tank is PERFECT!!!  Reptibark is good but I prefer ASPEN shavings.  You might want to try that sometime also. NO oils, aromas, etc to bother your snake.  Take care and thanks for writing :-)
