Corn Snake Heat

Question
I have a very young corn snake. (about 5 months old)  I am currently using a heat lamp in a 12 hour cycle.  I am going out of town for 5 days, and I'm concerned about heating his tank while I'm gone.
At night, when I turn the lamp off, it gets about 73 degrees Fahrenheit in the tank.
Should I buy a UTH for the time I'm gone, or can I leave his lamp on (or off) all the time?

Answer
Hi Danielle,

you should leave the lamp on all the time anyways though some people mistakenly say it should be turned off at night. make sure that when the heat lamp is on, the temperature stays around 82F and that is perfect.

keeping the lamp on will not stress the snake out or make it lose sleep as many people suggest. snakes are incapable of seeing incandescant lighting like that found in normal household bulbs or spot bulbs.

thanks for your question,

Andy
