QuestionHi John,
I have two RES they are two years old, I have them in a 75gal tank with a 12x12" basking area. Both measure 7" in length and 5" in width. I feed them aquatic turtle food every two days with lettuce and carrots daily and gold fish every two weeks or so. I think they are male and female, he has always been smaller until just recently, maybe the two months. He bit her tail off. I have them in the same tank with a divider to separate them for now. I will be moving in an month and will put in a pond as soon as I can to give them more space. Will reintroducing them in a larger space stop the aggression or do they need to be separated permanently, and what can I do for her to so her tail will heal?
Thanks
Cindy
AnswerThe male turtle is usually identified by having significantly longer front claws. That being said putting them in a pond should reduce the aggression factor. You can also check out my article on RES at http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2887890/prescription_for_red_eared_slid... the tail will probably not grow back but the turtle won't be affected by the injury as long as it heals properly.
I would also suggest that you check out http://www.littleresq.net and speak with Marc as he is an awesome resource for Red Eared Slider care.
