Question
QUESTION: We have found a lot of droppings in our attic.  Is this dangerous?  Should we replace the fiberglass in the attic?

ANSWER: Hi Susan,
You shouldn't need to replace the insulation.  What you are seeing may not only be gecko droppings, but also bat droppings. Unless you spend time in your attic, there really is no risk.  Of course if you store items in your attic, you want to try to keep everything covered and also clean well any item you take out. If you are able to, I would try to find how the critters are getting in and screen over those areas.  You can also vacuum up the droppings..

QUESTION: What if they are mouse droppings?  They do we need to change the fiberglass insulation.  I never use my attic or go up there.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Susan,
Mouse droppings are a bit different as they can cary some disease, plus the odor will attract more rodents.  Here is a link to read a bit more on it.
http://www.micecontrol.net/#attic
Also, here is a site to help identify mouse droppings.

house gecko droppings may look similar to mouse droppings, but will have a small amount of a white substance attached to it.
Bat droppings... http://icwdm.org/pages/BlackBrownDroppings.aspx  which can be hazardous so I do recommend that if they are bat droppings you contact a professional to find out how to properly remove it.
Again, if it is gecko droppings, there is really no risk..but as I said, items need to be washed, etc...
Other droppings can present risks.
