Question
Here's the thing. For the past month and a half my Leopard Geckos skin has been white and some parts have come off, but it seems that the white skin on his head, tail, and feet won't peel off. The skin has stayed like that for about 4 weeks, and now new skin has turned white over the old white skin that never peeled. Except only the old skin is now brown. Also, he lies in his water bowl constantly. What should I do?

Answer
Hello Lizzy, this can be very dangerous. A leopard gecko that can not shed its skin especialy around these areas can get serious injuries. The old skin contracts as he grows and he can loose, toes, feet and tail from this. You need to give him a bath. He knows he needs water to help him shed thats why he is always in his water. Go to your bathtub or sink and plug it. fill it with luke warm water up to about the point that would just cover up to half of his belly. So his belly has water but his back does not. Leopard Geckos can drown so keep an eye on him. THey are not good swimmers. This should help him shed then take a warm wet Qtip and swab at the skin to get it to peel but do NOT try to tear it off or take it off with your hands only a gentle rub. If it comes off you can help it but do NOT force it. If this does not help. You need to get some Mineral Oil or Vitamin E Oil and a Qtip and get the oil on there and swab at the skin that needs to shed. This will slick up the skin and should help it come off. Keep trying the baths and make sure one of his hide spots always has warm moist paper towels inside for humidity needed to shed. I hope this helps goodluck!!!
