Question
QUESTION: wel im not exactly USING it yet i havent bought the lizard but i got a coil bulb and its noe colored im not exactly sure which brand it was but it was 30$ so i hope its a good one.i got him playground sand from h-e-b plus and what size crickets should i get him?

ANSWER: Hello Olivia,

No, coil/compact lights are not good really.  They do not emit good UVB emissions & are somewhat glaring for them.  Some of the coil & compact lights are extremely hazardous as well, & will cause eye problems too.
The best UVB you should get is the Reptisun 10 flourescent tube bulb.  You can get it from here:

Are you using a bright white basking light?  You will need to use a bright white light for the basking in conjunction with the UVB light.
The crickets should not be any larger than the space between the eyes.  So, probably small.

QUESTION: well thats what i got, buts its a coil one and i think its white im not quite sure.but their eyes are pretty far apart so i think they should get medium crickets.and you said i SHOULDNT have a heated rock for them right?(the BABY bearded dragons)

ANSWER: Hello Olivia,

You are correct, no heat rocks should be used, they can get burned on them.  How many dragons are you getting?  Remember it is usually recommended to not house dragons together for very long periods of time.
You are going to have to change that coil light in for the proper UVB light.  They will not get adequate UVB emissions from the coil light & will fall prey to metabolic bone disease.
The UVB is an off colored light in comparison to a basking light.  What will you be using for the basking light?  A halogen flood light, a regular household light bulb?
If you are getting baby bearded dragons, mediums are too large.  You will need small crickets.  Otherwise, they can get impacted.  If you go by the distance on top of the head, between the eyes that is a more accurate way of depicting which size you will need.

QUESTION: o,wel what should i do with the other light if its thi wrong one i alredy threw away the box?and i get SMALL crickets,no heated rock, and i need to get a regular floresent bulb?and if the rock isnt for lizards what are they for?

Answer
Hello Olivia,

Basically, the heat rocks just should not have been invented really.  They have been known to cause thermal burns due to malfunctioning problems.  I just never recommend them.  Undertank heaters are better choices for reptiles that need belly heat such as geckos & snakes.
You need a regular household lightbulb for heating for the basking light.  Or you can get a nice bright halogen flood light for heating too, either one is fine.  They absolutely have to have a basking/heating light that is bright white, in combination with a UVB light.
That compact light basically has no function really.  The only thing you could use it for is extra brightness but, it would need to be 16 or so inches away from your dragon.  It just doesn't offer very good UVB emissions.
