bite on rabbits nose

Question
I have two bun-buns....since one has been spayed, the other has become agressive towards her.  I know that they need to be separated.  However, before this happened, one of them sustained a bite on the bridge of the nose.  I have been treating it with neosporin (the injury is about 12 hours old - does not appear infected).  Does this require veterinary intervention, or do rabbits heal well from same-species bites?  help!

Answer
Dear Ari,

Is the bite very deep?  If so, it may require suturing by your vet.

But if the bite is not serious, then washing it well with a dilute solution of povidone iodine (Betadine) may be all you need to do.

It's wise to have both bunnies spayed, not just one.  They may be able to be bonded again once the second bunny is spayed, and you can read more about how to safely reintroduce fighting bunnies and get them to be pals again here:

Keep an eye on the bite for any sign of infection, but if it's still clean and not swollen by now, there's a good chance bunny will be fine.  If you see any sign of infection, however, it's off to the vet!

Hope this helps.  Please write back if you have any other questions.
