Keeping rabbits outside (regarding cats)

Question
My rabbit likes to wander out into the backyard and spend most of his time chewing on plants, so we let him go and come as he wishes. We don't have a cage yet so he comes into the house at night. Once I get a cage, is it safe to keep it outside with the door of the cage open and available for the rabbit to come and go --- in other words, would my rabbit be at risk of getting killed by a cat?

Answer
An unsupervised rabbit left outdoors is at risk of being killed by more predators than just cats. Feral dogs can get into the yard, racoons, oppossums, foxes, and coyotes are all also threats. Aerial predators such as hawks can also pose a threat. Rather than letting him run completely loose, getting a moveable run with a top over it or getting him a harness and leash to walk him on will allow him to be able to enjoy being outdoors without the danger.
