Hello,

We have a rabbit that had a close encounter with a dog, since then she has fits on a regular basis. Do you know why this is and is there anything we can do for her?

 Mick i am sorry to here about your rabbit having fits. Anything that scares a rabbit will course then to have fits.
Mt 2 year old dutch rabbit also has fits because she fell from my arms and it scared her. Ever since then she has had them.

Fits come when a rabbit is very very scared. Whay happens is the rabbit will just stare because it is the frightened. inside there head there is alot going on. The rabbit is thinking what to, and it doesnt dare run from the danger. So there is alot of panic going on inside. This puts stress on the brain. So it causes the rabbit to go into fits.

When ever your rabbit goes into fits then u must leave her where she is. Kepp talking to her telling  her she is ok...sont leave her on her own. If u keep talking to her the she will no someone is with her. If u leave her this will get her to panic even more.
Wait till she has come out of the fit.and put her back in a cage and leave her to rest. Make sure she has water and food.

REMEMBER- If a rabbit is not strong enough to get through the fit then that rabbit will die in 1 hour.

Also it would be best to talk to your vet. He may want to check her over just in case there is any other damage.

Also give your rabbit pellets. You can get these from the pet shops. These will help with the nerve system. As this system can also cause fits. Give the pellets to your rabbit every night with no other food. Normal rabbit food in the day. But pellets at night.

I do give my rabbit pellets and it has helped her with her fits. she hasnt had one for a long time.

BUT this doesnt mean they have stopped. They can come at any time.

So ask your vet for more detail and also give her pellets. Thats what i have done. and it has done my rabbit also of help with her fits.
