Question
I just recently became the owner of a 5 pound rabbit.  I have a pen and a smaller cage.  I have a 9 year old, a 3 year old, 2 year old, and an infant.  We are all excited, though it happened fast.  My husband had a friend who had to move into a smaller place and gave us the rabbit.  Now what?  He came with pellet food, but i read that hay is better for him..how do we transition him to a healthier diet?  I gave him a carrot and he just looks at it.  Should we take him out daily for fresh air in a secure environment?  He used to stay in a basement.  Should i seperate his eating space from his litter area.  When he was brought his food was in his cage and he uses the bathroom in it also...basically I dont know anything and have not had the chance to get to the library as of yet..this is only our second day..whatever information you can share will be greatly appreciated.  Thank You...Mrs. Rivers

Answer
Hi,
well pellet food i think is good for rabbits but if you put hay in your rabbits cage the he will just eat it anyway. To give him a healthy diet you just really need to check what he is eating. But mainly just give him a few carrots, apples, cabbage things like that.Your rabbit may not eat its carrot at first but just give him time and he will when he gets hungary. If you want your rabbit to have fresh air then from pet shops you can buy rabbit runs which are abit like a cage but you can let your rabbit roam on the grass and nothink can get at him.Yes it will be best you seperate his eating space from his litter area. And your rabbit should be clean out once a week and must have plenty of attention and love.
Hope this helps and good luck from natasha.
