found domestic rabbit

Question
I work at Job Corps in Chicago, and we have a lot of open space, with lots of wild bunnies.  I noticed recently a bunny who comes to people, is chocolate brown, versus the the color of the wild bunnies in the area.  This rabbit will also eat out of your hand, and allow you to pet it and pick it up.  I assume someone dumped a domestic bunny off because they couldn't take care of it, or didn't want to bother with it any more.  Assuming it won't make it through the winter, I took it home, gave it a flea dip and shampooed it with shampoo I use on my cats and dog, and removed ticks from "Buster".  I really can't keep him though.  Can you suggest to me what I should do with him such as places that will take in this little orphan?  Right now he is sitting on my computer desk with me, and loves people petting him.  I wish I could keep him, but I really can't.  Help!

Answer
Dear Karn,

You might wish to contact your local chapter of the House Rabbit Society via this web site:

www.rabbit.org/chapter

and ask them for their safest suggestions about placing the bunny.  Every city has different resources, so it's best to check with the locals to see what the options are in your area.

I hope you'll be able to keep the bunny, though.  Safe homes for rabbits are VERY hard to find.

Thank you for your kindness in taking in the little lost soul!

Dana
