Laws on keeping rabbits

Question
I would like to know if there is a law on the amount of rabbits you can have at one time.

Answer
Dear Genetta,

There is no *federal* law governing this issue.  It is handled at the local level, and as such, it's subject to a lot of variation.

Laws on permission to keep certain species and certain numbers of animals of will vary tremendously from city to city, and state to state.  I would suggest that you go to your state's and city's government web sites and check on the various statutes regarding the classification of rabbits (are the pets or livestock in your area?), and what is the number you are allowed to keep in your specific area of your city.

Even within a city, allowances vary a great deal about what species you're allowed to keep, and how many of each. The best person to ask is a local official familiar with the laws and statutes of your area.

Hope that helps.
