Question
I don't mean to take up a lot of your time but i was wondering if Vicks vaporub is safe for rabbits and how to use it for rabbits and if Benadryl is safe for rabbits and how to use it for rabbits btw my rabbit is about 6 and a half pounds and back to a previous question is 16% protein to high for a rabbits food oh and another thing it seems my rabbits peg teeth either got really short or their missing wondering what happened is that normal he is about 6yrs old.
Thanks in advance.

Answer
Dear Marc,

I've never used Vick's for a bunny, though I know a few people who have put a wee spot on the nose.  Pediatric Benadryl is prescribed by some veterinarians for rabbits, but don't use either of these products without first consulting a rabbit-savvy vet:

and making sure these would be right for what's going on with the bunny.

If he has a stuffy nose and missing teeth, he could be having dental problems contributing to both, such as infection.  Please see:

If your bunny has chronic nasal discharge, ask the vet about teaching you to do a gentle nasal flush with slightly warmed saline solution.  It can really give relief for a good long time, though we usually do it twice a day for our snucky bunnies.

The key is to treat the root cause, though.  And the rabbit-experienced vet is the best person to judge how that should be done.

Hope this helps.
