Itchy ears, head shake.

Question
Hi, I've been looking all around google for things involving these symptoms, and all I can find is ear mites, and abscesses. Well, we've had our rabbit for about a year now. We found him in our back yard. But we didn't think he was wild, because he wasn't biting us. Anyways, we think that he got a bite from the neighbors cat when he was escaping it. But I've checked the other symptoms for ear mites, and he doesn't have overly-hot ears, missing fur, and nothing abnormal is visible in his ears. He's been shaking his head for a long time. Also notable, he has a little lump on his ear. Maybe scar tissue from the cat-bite? Also, he doesn't frequently shake his head. only if the bump is bothered, or just sometimes randomly. Any idea what this could be, and should I be very concerned?

Answer
Dear Jonathan,

The bump could be a scar, or it could be an abscess, or it could be something else.  There's no way I can tell without seeing it.  But if it's bothering him when it's touched, it's of concern.  Please get him to a rabbit-savvy vet:

who can have a look and get bun proper treatment.

Ear mites are not always readily visible, so ask the vet about treating him with Revolution, in case he has a mild case of mites and is just very sensitive to their itching, crawling nastiness.

I hope this helps.
