Sudden death of 91/2 week dwarf lop

Question
Today we came outside to our dwarf lop rabbits hutch to check on him, at about 11 o'clock in the morning, and he seemed fine. Later we came to bring him into the house, at about 1 o'clock, and he was dead, he was wet at both ends and seemed a little bloated. We have no idea what killed him?

We got him on the 17th August, he was 9 weeks old on the 22nd of August. We kept him in a clean hutch at night, and brought him into the house every day - but we were told this temperature change is fine so long as he is kept inside at winter when it could kill him.

We previously had a dwarf lop, who ran away, and Bramble seemed very different to our previous runaway who was very energetic and curious, whereas Bramble was very docile and was happy to sit on a knee for hours on end, wouldn't struggle when picked up and when put on the floor would just sit on something comfy, and would rarely explore. We assumed this was just his personality but now we wonder if maybe this was the rabbit being lethargic and he may have been unwell since we bought him? He didn't seem to leave as much droppings as our last lop, but he did eat and drink until last night when we noticed all of his food was still there.

He never seemed in pain though, and would never bite or crunch, he would only lightly grind his teeth when stroked between the ears, we hope this wasn't him trying to tell us something? However he never bit or showed any struggle or sign of pain, only low clicks and licks.

But do you have any idea what he had? We suspect maybe he wasn't just a snuggle-loving rabbit but was in fact maybe in fact lifeless due to an illness, but we don't know what it would have been, we now think maybe gut stasis? We're going to ask at the pet shop but a second opinion would be appreciated. We never thought to bring him to the vet as we never thought he was ill, we're only giving his quiet nature a second thought now he's sadly passed away.

Answer
Hi Rachel it sounds to me as though you bought a poorly rabbit. It will be hard to prove it was I'll when you bought it but you can go to the pet shop and tell them.
One thing I will say is never buy any livestock from a pets store as you never know where they get them from, always go to a reputable breeder .
