Question
Oh Just so you know she didnt say anthing bad about you just didnt see eye to eye on some things.  One more question

Since I am disabled will they try to find me a rabbit that will work well with me.  I mean I know some rabbits don't like to be picked up for example, so would they try to find me one that likes to lounge in my lap or on the couch with me?  I can't have a rabbit that I have to go chasing around the house because it would escape evertime.  I am calling that number tomorrow.  THank you so much for finding it for me.  I am so excited.  I get so lonely at home during the day all by my self and I thought a bunny might get just as lonely by themselves.  So I thought we could be a perfect match.

Thank you so much Mr. Meyer.  YOu have been a great help.

-----Question-----
I had a long conversation with Pam (another expert) about adopting a bunny.  I am disabled and she said even though you and her don't see "eye to eye" (thats what she said not me).   THat you are an expert when it comes to THe house Rabbit Society finding bunnies for people.  I have spent months getting my house ready and It is all bunny-proofed then I realzied I didn't kow where to actually get a bunny.  Anyway she answered most of my questions.  What I want to know, I live in Upstate NY area near Buffalo.  I looked in the phone book for House Rabbit Society or any other such thing and couldn't find it.

How on earth do I find these people who are so willing to put a bunny with a handicapped person?  Do I have to join a special club or something?  She told me she didn't know much about them but did give me some web-pages but they didn't help me.  I don't get it.  If they want us to adopt our bunnies from this organization shouldn't they have a phone number in the phone book or something?  Its not like I can go hop in my car and drive around looking for them.  Although my wheelchair does go pretty fast.  lol.

Thank you.  Please tell me where to go.

Hi Dru,

Pam and I are fine as far as I am concerned, we just disagreed on a particular instance.

I went onto the House Rabbit Society web site and found an upstate New York listing that you can contact:

Upstate New York

If you want the HRS web page so you can bookmark it, it is:

I am sure they will be more than happy to match you with one of their many rabbits needing adoption into a welcoming, loving home.  Thanks for wanting to adopt from a rescue group.  There is just something special, a different quality, that a rescue/shelter rabbit has.  I have seen this quality in my rescue/shelter adoptees.  I believe it ultimately is gratitude, because they were abandoned and wound up in a really bad place, and now are in a loving home where they are wanted.

Good luck, let me know if you have any problems contacting the upstate New York group.

Answer
Hi Dru,

I believe they will give you a typical interview like anyone else.  They do try to match adopters with rabbits that are good for them, whatever the circumstances.  They spend a lot of time getting to know their rabbits personalities, and also if they came from an abusive past.

For example, some rabbits are better being the only rabbit in the house.  They would not adopt that rabbit out to a home that already had a rabbit.  Some are bonded to another rabbit, and they would only adopt them out as a pair together.  Some rabbits don't do well with small children, and so they would state that the rabbit needs to go to an all-adult home.  Some rabbits that were abused sometimes do not do well with men (or a woman) if that was the gender of the former abuser.  Sometimes if the abuser was a smoker, that kind of pairing with an adopter that smoked would not be done.

I am sure they will do their best to find a rabbit that would work for you.  After all, they exist to rescue rabbits and find them good forever homes.

If you want, let me know how it goes.  Write back anytime.  Lee
