QuestionHi! My rabbit (a dutch) is shedding ridiculous amounts of hair, and in clumps. In fact, he's starting to get bald spots. His skin looks fine - not red or itchy, just a little dandruff. He doesn't seem bothered by the shedding (when I pet him he's not in pain or anything). I know some shedding is normal, but this much? The bald spots are worrying me...
Thanks in advance!
AnswerDear Julia,
Rabbits can sometimes have a major "coat blow," but it's not normal for there to be bald spots, especially if they are flaky. Please read:
www.bio.miami.edu/hare/furloss.html
and find a good rabbit vet to help you here:
www.rabbit.org/vets
It could be fur mites, which are easily and safely treated with Revolution/Stronghold (selamectin) from the vet.
I hope that helps.
