Nursing doe

Question
Hello,
I have 2 litters right now. One is a highly valuable doe, a very productive wooler, world class, in fact.   And another doe.   The valuable doe is nursing her litter, but the kits are 1 week old now (the other litter is 1 day older) and the other litter's kits are nearly double in size.    The doe isn't very co-operative in nursing, I've had to hold her in the nestbox a ocuple of times.   I really want these kits of hers to get nice and far and healthy like their less valuable counterparts.   Is there any chance of getting at least a couple of them onto the better mother at this point?   And if so, how might I go about it?

Answer
With them being only a day apart then switching moms will work out just fine. Keep in mind that does usually only nurse 2-3 times a day and that is usually only a breif moment. Thats why when ever you touch a kit, it pops and squeeks. It is trying to feed before the mom leaves again. You can switch a few babies over if you want, but keep in mind what you switch needs to be sure of a place to nurse. Say your good doe has 8 kits. And your other only has 4, well chances are she will only have room to nurse no more than 6 babies. So you must either switch over just about 2-3 of the babies- take in mind that you could be possibly deciding who makes it or not- and put that doe to her max, or you could give your good doe the other does babies and give the less valuable one the better babies.
One thing to keep in mind is that some does do not take well to fostered kits. Others make great foster moms. When switching, just make sure both sets of kits get the oppisite mom's scent on them before switching. Hope i didn't confuse you too much. :)
I myself have fostered sucessfully many times. So sucessful that I had a Netherland dwarf that thought he was a holland lop for about 4 weeks of his life. ;).
