Question
Hello,
My name is Karina Mejia and I own a Netherland Dwarf Rabbit. When I purchased him from PJ's Pet Center they said that he should be about 2 years old, so I don't really know exactly how old he is but my problem is  that his urine seems a bit fishy... i mean it doesn't seem normal, or at least to me it doesn't. it wasn't until recently that his urine started changing in color. in the past it was normal, yellow i guess, now it is orangy/red. I didn't notice it until i let him run around my room and i see dots of what looks like red dots but when i try to soak it up with paper its a orange/red. What i am trying to figure out is if it is normal or something wrong? Please help and thank you for your time.

sincerely,

Karina

Answer
This is something that happens often in rabbits.  Urine color can fluctuate.  Often diet can change the color of the urine.  But sometimes environmental factors can also change the color as well.  This site lists the common causes of a change in urine color in rabbits:

There is nothing to worry about unless there was blood or any kind of unusual straining when urinating.

Just for reference, this site also has more info on common urinary problems:
