Question
I have a 3 year old rabbitt who just recently started having runny eyes I took him to the vet who prescribed Vetropolycin ointment, (he couldn't figure out what was wrong )all it did was make my bunny miserable! Just wondering if you have heard of this or not my previous bunny never had this problem, he doesn't seem sick just runny eyes. Any help greatly appreciated !

Answer
I noticed that your question was in the in queue section rather than asked to a specific breeder.  In the future if you would like faster answers the best thing to do is go to the all experts main page -- Go to Animals/Pets -- Go to Veterinary medicine-- and go to rabbits.  Then ask an actual expert.  Scroll through their profiles and see who you think might best be able to answer your question.  The experts who are asked questions only have 3 days to answer, where as questions that are asked to anyone or what we call pooled questions may never be answered.

The best thing to do is to keep the eye clean and apply Terramycin eye ointment 2-3 times a day for a week. Neomycin Polymyxin, or Neobacimyx also works well with this, and can be used on young kits also.  Your rabbit might be annoyed but once his eyes feel better he will be much happier.  You are also going to want to keep an eye out for runny nose with white discharge, persistent sneezing, and shortness of breath as these are all signs of snuffles and snuffles is a very dangerous and often fatal illness.

If you ever have anymore questions feel free to ask me.  I am almost always available.  Just follow the steps above and find one of the experts and someone will help you out.

I hope your bun bun is doing better.  Thank you..
