Question
female, almost 3 years, netherland dwarf, not fixed, (never been to a vet), lives alone but there is a cat and dog that sometimes play together in house when bunny not in inside cage, outside on nice days-inside on not so nice days and inside every night, eats mostly pellets some dandy lions and grass and roses,

we are very low income and just can't afford a vet.  found a lot of blood and a few small clots in cage for last 3 days strait but none today.  Is there anything I can do at home for this member of the family or should I start preparing my son for the sad truths of death?

Answer
Well, I would check her out to make sure she does not have an open wound.  If the blood is from the vagina I would suspect she probobly has a uturian tumor.  Has she ever had a litter ?  Is she eating normally ?  Peeing and pooping normaly ?  Does she look sad or normal ?

You can do a couple of things to better her overall health.

1) in her drinking water put 6ml of apple cider vinegar per 1 liter of water - at all times.

2) give her 1/2 cup a day of rolled oats - the kind you cook for breakfast - not the instant.

3) give her 1 teaspoon of wheat germ a day

4) give her an 1 inch slice of banana with the peel on it every day.

These extra foods will boulster her nutricion to compensate for the blood loss - -

As long as she looks not sad she is not in pain.  If she sits in a corner with her feet under her and seems sad , does not eat or drink - then she is in pain and should be put down - for her own sake.

It is very hard to lose a member of the family - but it is part of life.  Here when I have to put an animale down for illness even I cry !  But I do not let an animal suffer needlessly.  If it has to be done expalin to your son that it is not fair to the rabbit to leave it in pain.

If it is a tumor it will continue to grow and bleed.
