baby cottontail eyes not open

Question
I have been taking care of a baby cottontail about 10 days old.  It has fur but eyes not open yet and ears still layed back.  Have beeb feeding goat milk, vitamins and other supplements.  When can I expect the eyes to open?

Answer
They should be opening any time now.  If they aren't open by 14 days then you may need to help open them by cleaning them with some warm saline solution put on a cloth and wipe them gently.

You have obviously been taking very good care of this rabbit  but it really is in the best interest of wild rabbits to go to a wildlife rehabilitator.  They have special training and the facilities to keep the animals in their wild setting.  That way when they are released it is easier for them to adjust.

Thank you and good luck to you and the baby
