Question
My dwarf bunny has had trouble usuing her right leg. She doesn't seem to be in REALLLY bday pain, but maybe some pain. I have been reaidng about dislocated hips, and broken bones.. ect... but i dont know what it is. It seems like she has lost use of it. Will she need a cast or anything??

Answer
Hi Ana

Rabbits are very good at masking pain to make them less desirable for predators.  It is a natural instinct.  Since your rabbit is showing signs of pain and is unable to completely use her leg you really need to get her to a vet asap.  They will be able to do an Xray and if the hip is dislocated they may have to put it back in place.  If the leg is broken they may splint it depending on where the break is.

I think your best bet is to get her to a vet asap.  Please try to find an exotic veterinary clinic or a vet that is rabbit savvy.  If you have trouble locating one in your area you may have to drive a few hours but it is worth it for the welfare of your rabbit.  They can also give her pain medicine which will also help to relieve her stress from the injury.  In the meantime please don't let her outside.  She can be spotted by predators like hawks from miles away and would be considered easy prey.

I do hope your little one is ok and I will certainly be praying for her to have a quick and healthy recovery.

Thank you

Pam
