QuestionI have a mini rex with cuterebra. A neighbor took it to the vet to get everything out, but now the rabbit has more bumps that are much larger. What should be done for the rabbit?
AnswerDear Hezikiah,
Revolution (selamectin) can help weaken the larvae enough so that they can be very carefully pulled out of the cysts. Antibiotics may be necessary to prevent the empty cysts from becoming infected, so please find a good rabbit vet here:
www.rabbit.org/vets
and get the bunny proper medical attention ASAP. Then, to prevent further infection, keep bunny indoors where he will be safe from botflies. Please see:
http://www.rabbit.org/care/new-bunny-index.html
for information on litterbox training and other info you'll need to keep him inside where he's safe.
Hope that helps.
