Question
I recently bought a baby bunny from a reputable pet store.  She's tiny, and has the markings of a Dwarf Hotot with the body of a Britannia Petite.  She's really sweet but her personality is unlike any of the other buns I've had.  She has endless amounts of energy when she is out of her cage, but when she is in her cage she prefers to sit alone, huddled as far into a corner as she can push herself.  When we pick her up she shakes constantly, like she is terrified or extremely cold.  Yet she seems to have no fear, she climbed up onto my shoulder and jumped off with no hesitation, and that was at least a 5 foot fall.  What really worries me, besides the shaking, is that one of her eyes is kept closed or almost closed at all times.  The eyelid is red like it is irritated and her eyeball itself looks like she has a case of pink eye.  Is this something we should worry about? Or is it possible that she just has something in her eye that needs to be flushed out?

Answer
Dear Alex,

This sounds like a bunny who is in good spirits, but is suffering from pain--and the eye sounds like the culprit.  I would get the baby to a good rabbit vet ASAP for evaluation and treatment, as necessary.  You can find one here:

I hope this helps.
