Question
Are mini rex used for meat?  They feel so musclar and have small heads.

Do non-producing rabbits become meat?  How long are they usually breeding?

Are rabbits usually fed drugs like other food animals?

Answer
Hi Tom,

Mini Rex are not usually used for meat commercially.  If you are simply raising them for yourself they may be OK, but I think it would be better to invest in the standard Rex or one of the meat breeds for a better carcass.

Depending on the age of the rabbit yes.  Older does and bucks are usually only good for sausage or animal meat. Middle age ones are OK for stewers.

The breeding life of a rabbit depends on the care and nutrition it receives throughout its life and also the breeding schedule.  For someone who breeds 3 or 4 times a year a breeding life is approx 2 -3 years.

Depends on your system.  I don't use drugs but some do.  It comes down to your overall management and your preference. If you don't use drugs then your nutrition, health manaagement and cleanliness needs to be spot on.

Cheers
