QuestionMy agouti with steel undercoat dwarf lop and black with white undercoat up ear doe has a litter. 1 black, 1 steel, 1 chestnut, 2 blue, 2 agouti of which one is lop.
What can I conclude about the genetic make up of each of the parents and kits?
AnswerIt's a little hard to tell what colours you mean on the parents. I am guessing the agouti is a chestnut agouti. Is the undercolour a slate blue colour, and does it have black lacing on the outside tip of the ears? If so that is chestnut agouti. Or do you mean he is a chestnut steel?
I am pretty confused about the doe, though. Is she solid black, no markings? The undercolour is white or just a lighter colour?
I assume you know a little about genetics, since you are asking for the genetic make up. If not, please read the genetics section on my website at http://www.tsukiyo.org/argent to help you better understand my answer.
If he is a chestnut steel (also known as a gold-tipped black steel), he would be:
Aa B_ C_ Dd EsE (Gold-tipped black steel carrying self, dilute, and full extension)
Assuming that the doe is a black, she would be:
aa B_ C_ Dd E_ (black carrying dilute)
That would make the kits be as follows:
Black: aa B_ C_ D_ E_
Steel: -- B_ C_ D_ EsE
Blue: aa B_ C_ dd E_
Chestnut: Aa B_ C_ D_ E
Agouti: Agouti is not an actual colour in the USA. It just describes a pattern. So without knowing what kind of agouti it is, I cannot tell you what the genetics would be
Anytime there is a blank space (like B_) that means the second "slot" could be the same as the first or be hiding a recessive (weaker) gene. Even though both parents carry dilute, one cannot me sure that any of the non-blue babies also are carrying it. Likely some are, but just as likely some are not.
