My bunny, Casper, is biting his hind legs. I haven't actually seen him do it but I've noticed that he now has two bare spots on each of his hind legs. Can you tell me why he might be doing this? How can I make him stop? Do I need to take him to a Vet?
Thanks so much for your time and effort. I hope to hear from you soon. --uma

Answer -
There are a number of reasons he could be doing this.  He could have mites.  He could have urine burn that is causing the fur to fall out.  He could be rubbing against something and rubbing the fur off.

If you don't see any definite reason why the spots are bare, I would run him by a vet to make sure he doesn't have mites.

I actually saw him biting his skin. If there is a simple way to remidy this, please let me know so I don't have to drop 40 dollars at the Vet. However, please also advise me to go to the Vet if there is any chance it could be a more serious problem. Thanks again.

Answer
It depends on why he is biting his skin.  Does it itch?  If so, what is causing it to itch?  You could certainly see if he has urine burn, if so, try something like diaper rash ointment, but if that's not it, then again you are back to going to the vet.
