Lionhead Rabbit chewing woodwork and cords

Question
What can I do to get my rabbit to stop chewing on the wood work and cords besides covering them up...I cannot cover my wood work obviously but is there anything that I can give him instead? He loves apples and carrots but he loves chewing the hard wood around my room. Would giving him scraps of cherry wood be a bad idea? What is harmful to him?

Answer
Hello,

You can try buying some bitter apple spray and attempt to spray the things that you do not want him to chew. Bitter apple spray is available at many pet stores.

The only problem is, some rabbits are not bothered by it. Also, be sure to test a small area and let it set before you spray it all to make sure it will not damage what you are spraying.

Aside from that, the only way to prevent your rabbit from chewing it to not allow your rabbit access to these areas. You cannot easily train a rabbit to not chew objects as you can with a dog.

I have been told to not give rabbits Cherry wood. You can certainly give your rabbit other untreated wood blocks (see your local pet store) to chew on, but that will not prevent the chewing on other things.

Good luck. Please let me know if you have an additional questions!
