Questionhi there, just a question really- my rabbit has started to tilt her head back and keeps her mouth open all the time. her lower jaw doesn't appear to move and she is off her food. i am planning on going to a vet soon but what can i do in the mean time to help her- as she is not her usual self
AnswerDear Kim,
The signs you describe are of a rabbit who is having a LOT of trouble breathing, and may have pneumonia. You must get her to an experienced rabbit vet NOW if you are to save her life. You can find a rabbit vet here:
www.rabbit.org/vets
She may need to be put on oxygen, and nebulized with antibiotics, mucus-dissolving drugs, and drugs to open her airways to allow her to breathe. Please ask about this, since a bunny in her condition may not survive without oxygen and nebulization at least twice a day.
I hope she will be fine, but do NOT waste any time getting her to the vet. This should be considered an emergency.
