Question
I purchased a rabbit today and I'm trying to find out if it is a mix or a particular breed. She is kind of brindle colored, smallerwith lop ears, and a gray mane around her neck and feathers on her hind legs. Anything sound familiar?

Answer
The only breed I know that has a mane around the neck and fur on the hind quarters and flanks would be the lionhead.  They are not a recognized breed as of yet but are in the process of approval.  The lionhead standard as of right now does not have lopped ears but their are hybrid breeds out there that have all sorts of weird assortments.  I actually saw a lionhead mini rex cross a few weeks ago and it was definitely very interesting.  Basically your bunny could be just about anything.  The gene that causes the mane can be crossed into other breeds and be thrown back after many generations.  Without seeing it in person I wouldn't be able to tell you for certain.  From your description it does not sound like a breed that is recognized but that does not mean it is not purebred.

I hope you enjoy and love your new bunny.
