Rabbit ear flopped plus trouble eating and drinking

Question
I have a 7yr old New Zealand house bunny and recently he's become quite ill, in fact last week we thought he would die, but I've managed to nurse him back from the brink.

Around Easter his left ear flopped over, as far as I know there's been no trauma to the head. Also shortly after he started to have trouble eating and drinking. It was like he wanted to eat but was having trouble picking up his food. So we took him to our vet and he thought it might be his teeth so kept him in overnight. When I collected him the vet said his teeth were OK and gave me some medicine to help gut motility and some of that special food you syringe feed them. Although I couldn't get him to eat any of it.

He perked up quite a bit and started feeding more normally again (the vet had no idea about his ear incidentally). However last week he took a sudden turn downhill and has lost loads of weight, he was always plump but now he's skin and bone. He's been started on the gut motility medicine again and he has perked up but he only seems able to eat when hand fed. He seems to have a real problem trying to pick up his food and appears to only eat on the right side of his mouth. He also has trouble drinking (he's always drunk from a bowl) and ends up with lots of water down his chin. I'm really worried about him but the vet doesn't know what else to do and just keeps asking if we want to put him down! He seems content now and on the mend so I'm obviously reluctant to put him down unless he's in pain and miserable. But his not being able to feed himself is a problem. Could he have had a small stroke which would cause his ear to flop and problems eating on the left side? Any advice greatly received, thanks.

Answer
hi he may have had a stroke but the vet should have known this.
also with weight loss hemay have a tumor but then again the vet should have found it.
if he's in pain it would be selfish to let him carry on and at 7 yrs he is a very old rabbit.
