My rabbit is overweight

Question
Hello my name is Amber Norris and I have a rabbit named Daphne. She is about 1 1/2 years old. I have been spoiling her a little to much and giving her a little to much fruit. I realized she had put on some weight so I only give fruit to her as a treat once a week now. I've heard that there is no such thing as diet food for rabbits so I was wondering how I can help my rabbit lose weight. I give her tons of exercise and I feed her approx. 1/2 cup of food a day. She has endless hay and I give her some vegies. She weighs about 8 lbs and she is a medium size rabbit. She just looks overweight. It hasn't stopped her from running and playing around and she is still able to clean herself. I just want her to be healthy. Any input would be awesome. Thank you.

Answer
Hi, since she still seems overweight and you are feeding her a good amount of food then here is what I suggest.  I would reccomend you feeding Daphne about 1/3 cup of food in the morning.  This would give her less food and a chance to burn it off during the day.  Also you shouldn't be giving her enless hay.  I have many rabbits myself and I know by now that if you continue giving them hay they will deffinitly continue eating it.  Give her about a handful somwhere in the afternoon.  Not too late though.  Also instead of giving her tons of filling fruits and veggies you might want to give her about two pieces of a lightweight vegtable such as celery.  Try this new diet for about a month and if you are still having problems then feel free to message me back.  Thanks, Kiersten.
